There is no question that doing all you can to shield your skin from the sun’s ageing ray is your best bet for great looking skin, now and forever. And if you consider that premature aging may account for up to 80 percent of the marks and lines that define the older face, that’s a lot of age you can save.
The sun emits rays of varying wavelength. The ultraviolet rays can be divided into UVA, UVB and UVC. The wavelength of UVA is the longest and these rays can penetrate the skin down to the dermis. UVB is the middle wavelength and UVC rays are the shortest wavelength in the spectrum and they are totally absorbed by the ozone layer and don’t injure your skin. UVB is often called the ‘burning’ ray as it is primarily responsible for the visible and sometimes painful effects of sunburn. UVA is often known as the “ageing’ ray because it generally causes the wrinkling and sagging that as little as 25 years ago, were thought of as the natural, and inevitable part of the aging process.
Your best defense is to wear a sunscreen everyday. Your daily sunscreen is your first line of defense against aging. Pick one that is suitable for your skin type and comfort. Avoid sun exposure between 11.00 am to 3.00pm. If you know you are spending prolonged time wear a hat and reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours.
